EFAS Digital Screens Change Hong Kong Flat Selection For Recovered Units

Hong Kong's Express Flat Allocation Scheme has moved into live selection with a more digital process for applicants comparing recovered and resale subsidised flats.

Selection Starts

The Housing Authority said the 2026 Express Flat Allocation Scheme and resale exercise would commence flat selection on 2 September. The first batch covers households of two persons or above, followed by one-person applicants, with invitations issued according to priority, district choice and flat type.

Digital Display Shift

This year's process adopts digital display screens to show available flats in real time at the selection venue, replacing traditional paper display. Eligible applicants with selection dates can also preselect desired units through a wish-list function before formal selection begins.

Who Is Affected

Public rental households and Green Form buyers must compare speed against fit. Recovered flats can offer earlier occupation but may have layout, renovation and estate-condition tradeoffs. One-person applicants may face narrower choice after larger households move first.

Selection Checks

Applicants should verify priority status, district, flat size, building age, estate condition, management fees, mortgage eligibility, resale restrictions, repair budget and whether wish-list choices remain available when called. A displayed unit is only useful if it matches household needs.

Outlook

The digital process should make availability clearer, but Hong Kong applicants still need fast financial and layout decisions. Well-located recovered flats are likely to move first.
